Fire Storm 2007

Our staff is in barrio Logan visiting a very special place in San Diego, Chicano Park. A cultural landmark, the park features amazing artwork that exemplifies the community.

Teacher Field Trip

The entire staff at my school is now headed to SE San Diego to visit the area where many of our students are bussed in from.

At a SMARTBoard training with our district. They just installed one bigger than this one in my classroom. Tomorrow is our first report day back to school. Students arrive the day after Labor Day.

Just broke down gear from a dive at the power plant water exhaust tubes. Super fun to get launched by 90 degree water. Saw many species of fish and turtles!

Hawaii Diving

Right now we're headed out of Hawaii Kai for scuba diving. The hurricane conditions have finally subsided. I'll post pictures from my underwater camera on my site.

Bananas!

Huge bananas at Bryan's outdoor ecology laboratory! Students regularly harvest bananas, papayas, pineapples, sugar cane, noni, basil, mint, watercresst, tomatoes, and more!

Bryan Silver's outdoor ecology laboratory is an awesome learning experience for his students who learn more than aquaculture, hydroponics, vermicomposting, and bioremediation.

Aquaculture in High School

Here is one of Bryan's aquaculture tanks that harvests tilapia but also utilizes bioremediation to grow other crops. His students learn much about hands-on life sciences.

Bryan's High School Outdoor Bio Lab

Today, we visitied Bryan's high school where he teaches. Bryan is very interested in experiential biology. We pulled down some bananas, papayas, and chopped tea leaves.

Sailing Race in Hawaii

Race! We're on Rocky's sailboat for a little race in Kaneohe Bay. The boat is packed since Bryan has lots of family here for the wedding.

We are headed to Hawaii Kai for some scuba diving. Hoping for good weather though hurricane flossy is still near the islands.

Top of Diamond Head

The view from up here is awesome! It only took about 20 minutes to get to the top by a trail and stairs that ascended from inside the crater.

Crazy waves at Sandy Beach. Conditions are rough and windy. We hear a storm is in the Pacific. Kids are launching themselves in the air!

Just arrived in Honolulu last night. We're staying at our friend, Larry's, place. We'll be here for 10 days. He has a great view of Diamond Head.

Rides at The Stratosphere

Here's the "Big Shot" ride at the top of the Stratosphere. The riders are propelled to the top by forces created by pressurized air.

Currently in Las Vegas celebrating Gary's birthday. We are staying at the MGM for the weekend. Here's me, Dave, Lee, and Gary. We all worked together at Emerald Bay. Tomorrow we leave for Hawaii!

Santa Catalina Island - Camp Emerald Bay

Currently at Camp Emerald Bay for Alumni weekend to reunite with friends and family. Yesterday we went SCUBA diving at Blue Caverns. Too bad I can't take my phone underwater!

Whales!

Awesome whale encounter! We were able to get fairly close to a pair of ginormous whales. This was during our crossing to Catalina Island yesterday.
